Berta is a three-year-old born into an Iraqi Christian family, currently residing in Amman, Jordan. They live as stateless people, not having been granted asylum, nor have they been given refugee status. Due to their persecution in Iraq by ISIS, they fled to Jordan in search of a better life. Because they are not given the refugee status in Jordan, like many other demographics are, Berta's family are not able to work. This makes it impossible to pay rent, to pay for food, and most importantly in their lives, health care.
Berta has been diagnosed with leukemia. As if the struggles her family face were not burdensome enough, they are faced with the incredible weight of possibly losing their child and the financial consequences of saving her. It is simply not possible without our help.
100% of the proceeds from "Terror & Hope: Christians of the Middle East," both book and exhibition are being dedicated to saving Berta's life. If you would like to donate directly to her, please click on the button below entitled "Donate to Berta" and select "Terror & Hope" in the drop down menu. The Philos Leadership Institute A group meets Berta's father and her six-year-old sister. Berta was too ill to travel to meet them. ICRC provided their family with enough money to pay their month's rent. Rachael and her other PLI classmates develop a plan to raise money with Juliana Taimoorazy, founder of the Iraqi Christian Relief Council. They are given a total of $6,000 USD by the center in Amman Berta is currently seeking treatment from, under the understanding that that amount would save her life.
